Needed: Opinions on different clutches

i have experience with OEM, ACT and Spec clutches.

OEM - blah, but good for daily driving.
ACT - great, but not the best daily driver (unless you want a super strong left leg).
Spec - the middle guy. soft clutch pedal, but good grip.

i am curious of the opinions of other drivers. i want the GOOD and the BAD. i'd like to hear from everyone. if you have ACT, Spec or whatever else. just give feedback.

the reason for all of this, is that my 99RS has a slipping clutch, and i need to get a replacement clutch. trying to get an idea of what would suit my scenario (daily driver with SOME spirited driving on the weekends).

I have a ACT its freaking rediculous how stiff and how hard it is to drive. Whenever I let someone drive my car the have a stall session for about the first 2 or 3 times, even if they are good stick drivers. Im deffinately getting a different clutch sometime soon.

ah ok.

i had the ACT Stage 1 clutch on my 86 mr2. super strong. i did have problems with it initially, because i was only accustomed to OEM clutches. but, after a few days, it was like normal...

any experience with Spec clutches?

I got an ACT clutch/streetlite flywheel on 02 wrx.
it's significantly stiffer than other clutches as many have commented.
definitely not daily driver friendly :P

Oh BS, ACT is fine for daily driving. It is stiff but you get used to it. I personally like the feel. Another bonus, my wife never wanted to drive my car. Exedy close to stock little extra grip. Spec; I've used them in the past never had any luck with them.

ACT is definately stiffer than stock but you do get used to it. I had one in my civic for a while.

I run the exedy with an ACT flywheel. It's pretty much exactly the same as stock feel. Much better grip. Great for daily driving. I've had no problems with it so far. Exedy makes our stock clutches.

Shoot...our clutches are stiffer than most non-trucks that I've driven anyways.

Spec. From most people I've talked to they've told me to stay away from those.

I'd go ACT or exedy. Both trusted long time clutch manufacturers.

If I remember correctly ACT basically takes the stock bits and updates them. Exedy is a ground up remake for each car specifically. But like I said...pretty sure Exedy makes our stock clutches.

well, that is a by-product of how i came up with this handle.

on the mr2 board, i learned to NOT listen to the younger generation of owners - most are ricers in disguise.

so, it got to the point where i'd only really listen to the old timers - they tend to know exactly what they're talking about.

today the Spec Stage 2 clutch was installed.

we'll see how it goes in the next few hundred/thousand miles...

it DOES feel better than the previous clutch, and (strangely) the clutch pedal feels softer than the previous one as well.

ok. over 600 miles on it already. it feels great. no noise from the clutch at all, unless i put it in 1st gear and only use the clutch to get going (ie. no gas pedal pressure at all). if i do that, its a bit stuttery.

other than thats, its been absolutely perfect. grips like all hell is breaking loose, doesnt slip at all, and keeps delivering power all the way to redline.

even a quick downshift is smooth and crisp with no complaints of any kind.

i've tested this with standard daily driving, and a bit spirited on the local twisties.

and, most importantly, after the clutch was installed, i babied it for 500 miles... never pushing to deep or quick on the throttle. never launching. and all shift and clutch inputs were as soft as i could make them.
