Loud rattle engine-brakingin 2nd gear
the car:
06 WRX about 43K miles on it, (I bought the car new) not a glitch beside this loud rattle when I let go of the gas in second gear, coming apparently from inside one of the passenger side doors.
I opened both looking for something loose, and found the metal handle screw loose inside one of them, fixed that, put it all back together, but the rattle is still there.
dismantled the seat belt cover to see if I had something loose there..nothing.
The noise manifests itself ONLY when slowing down from second, under 3000 RPM or lower for about 3-4 seconds depending on my speed. I read about many different sounds, anybody found out what it was or had the same problem fixed by the dealer?
thanks

I'll do it this weekend.
Funny thing is that it really seems to come from inside the doors, like some metal part rattling against metal...but I opened both, without destroyng my DynaMat work...and could not find a single loose screw...really weird.

Problem solved !
I stopped at the Livermore Subaru dealer this morning, took a mechanic for a ride, he heard the "rattle" and took the car in. I was ready for bad news about the transmission.
15 minutes later he shows back with the keys " you are good to go" I was surprised.
Apparently at my last oil change, performed at a non-Subaru mechanic here in Concord (CA) they lifted the car and bent one of the struts under, that now under weight would rattle against metal creating the "transmission breaaking" kind of noise.
They realigned the 2 metal parts and the rattle: is gone.
All in 15 minutes and for free.
isn't that awesome?
Thanks Livermore Subaru !

Made me think about trying to save money on one side, and help the little guy, and get a crappy service and even damage.
No moah...
I usually do it myself, either that ot a Subaru dealer or a Ryneck / bigO kind of thing...no moah unknown metal-butchers.
