looking for transmission advice

i blew my 1st gear. i currently have RA gear sets. i would like to go with the 6spd swap but, its kind of pricey. has anyone heard anything on the Kazz gear sets? if so, any info would help. how reliable would they be for a daily driven car, how strong are they compared to a sti trans.? again, any info would help. thx!

what are the mods on the car? You said you blew an RA first gear. Unfortunately, RA means nothing in terms of strength. RA gears are only stronger when they are cryo-treated (or something similar).

I say try out the IAPerformance.com gearsets

Treated gearsets now feature micro-polishing for improved reliability, strength, and reduced frictional losses.
However, I can't help but mention something. If you were using a reliable, cyro-treated gearset, and are not pushing unheard of amounts of power (IAPerformance gearsets are rated to 350whp/350wtq) perhaps the gearset wasn't the issue. Perhaps the problem lies within your driving? Needless to say, you need a new 1st gear given yours is gone. My point is however, perhaps you should not be looking for the top of the line, 1000whp capable tranny, but rather replace your 1st, and learn how to drive the car.

I'm sorry, I know this can be a touchy/ego bashing subject, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

thanks for the advice. i've been calling around and no shop said, they don't have the resources to get 1 gear. they said i have to buy a new set. i wasn't trying to buy a race tranny. i just want my tranny to be a little bit strong. i recently had my clutch installed and i talked to the shop who installed it about my problem. they said my clutch is the source of the problem.

I've heard great things from them. Try and contact andrewtech and DS1 I believe they are vendors for that gear set.

Which clutch do you have? Might be a bit more than you actually need.

I'm not familiar with this clutch, but the vast majority of streetable clutches should not cause a blown 1st gear in a treated tranny. I still say its driving habits (bad launches) in which case, you can get the strongest tranny possible, but it just means that your axles will be the next thing to go. Honestly though, a vf34 on a 2L motor is not putting out enough power to shatter treated gears and axles if driven properly.

I sell/install MFactory gearsets...I get them from DS1.
The only problem is that they cost more than RA sets.

I heard those Exedy clutches were pretty good.
Maybe you can try and source a LGT 1-2 and put in a less harsh clutch.
