As long as they match the ratio of the front diff exactly, you can use whatever differential you wish.

You can just get the 390 ring gear, but i'd get the diff to it's cheap. yes it will work. You can also run a uk STI box it has the same fd as the wrx. Plus it has better 5/6 ratios. No DCCD though.

I got the 3.90 ring & pinion off of a '93 Legacy T, but now am too worried about the spiders to drag race; so I've got the same question as EC WRX.

Utilizing the JDM v7 6spd, the 3.90 ring & pinion, and a 3.90 rear diff, what does that do for me as far as durability?

As a side question, how difficult is it to replace spider gears?

The diff's do not come with "ratios". The ratio is determined by the gear that is bolted to the diff and the pinion that the gear is driven by. Hense, you can use that KAAZ diff.

However, I recommend going with CUSCO diffs. Not because I like them or because I am a CUSCO advocate, but because those diff are really the bomb. Very street friendly. Easy configurable (1, 1.5 or 2 way; locking characteristics; etc).

You can even stick a R180 CUSCO diff into a R160 melon, IF you use a higher capacity diff cover (SYMS, BOZZ Speed, J Speed, Flatt Racing).

Also, CUSCO have about 8 different diffs for the rear for WRX's. Type RS and Type MZ with variety of configurations. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me here.

If you stick a R180 Cusco Diff, would you have to get R180 STI rear axles? Where can you get a higher capacity diff cover btw?

From what I know, no. You can use your stock axles.

I can get you the hi-cap cover.
