Thumbs up Kaaz 1.5 rear diff

I recently installed a Kaaz 1.5 way rear LSD in my car. I’ll start with the Bad. Fitment is kind of a pain, as you need to get a new set of inner axles. No one seems to make a direct drop in for the USDM R-160 rear inner axles. Next is noise, the Kaaz is noisy. There is however relief. You MUST do the recommended break in procedure to the letter if you want the diff to quiet down eventually and work to full potential. Be prepared to change the diff oil a couple times initially as well. Be sure and use a good conventional oil with a LSD additive, no synthetics. This is considerably more maintenance than a Quaife, but I wanted something that would be dirt or low traction oriented as well.

Now on to the good. Pure and simple this diff works great! Power delivery out of corners is smooth and oversteer is enhanced. The car also tucks its nose inside better and with more predictability when lifting off throttle for corner set up.
I had some bozo put mine in, as I did not want to deal with backlash and shims etc.. but ended up taking somewhere else when I noticed the diff leaking. Turns out he did not snap the axles all the way in to their c-clips I was even under there about 20 times and did not notice as I was so intent on looking at the seals Besides that there have been no problems and the diff is quiet…

'02 WRX with a 6-speed. Since I changed the gearbox, instead of getting a ring and pinion, I ended up with a non LSD rear diff with the 3.90 ratio. rather than waste the time pulling the old rather weak stock LSD, I decided to upgrade. I got the diff from SPD for $760 and the inner stub axles from rallispec.

SPD as in http://www.spdusa.com ? they don't have the Kaaz units listed on their website, did you have to call them to get one?
