Exclamation Just got the 6 speed....what the?!

Just a few days ago i got my 6 speed JDM spec STi tranny... Upon recieving, several things caught my eye...

One, there are no stub axles on the center diff... So my WRX axles wont work on it. (BTW this is going into a '02 USDM WRX)

Two, all of the sensors have been clipped... so i have bare wires with no harness clips. Hmmm.... Is this right?.. Does JDM spec tranny have stub axles? Or do i need to get matching STi axles...? And what signal do all those wires run?

Anyone who has done the swap, please help!! I was told this tranny was non-DCCD but im beginning to wonder....

I haven't read that thread myself, but I imagine you'll find what you need there. Or at lease you know who to ask... Good luck!

Sounds like you got screwed pretty good. The stub axles can be purchased from your local dealer. They run around $150. You should be able to use the wiring harness and sensors from your stock tranny. They are the nuetral position switch, reverse switch and vehicle speed sensor. If the sensors are still in the tranny and intact, just use the harness. If there are more spots for wires than I listed, it is indeed a DCCD tranny. It will default to 50/50 split without the DCCD hooked up.
Good luck,
Kevin

Got the wiring stuff all figured out.... Turns out the clipped wires were just other sensors still attached to the tranny from the old car... NOT sensors coming from the tranny.

As for the stub axles.... can i pull the stubbies out of my 5 speed wrx tranny and insert them into the 6 speed?.... Apparently if you dont take out the spring pins out on the half shafts, it pulls the stubbies out with them. Anybody know if this works? Dont want to start pulling til i know for sure!

Pulling the stub axles out of the 5mt front diff requires the removal of the front diff.

sorry...

Now that post has me confused... One of my buddies took out his tranny to change clutch, and he pulled his axles off the tranny with the male end of the stub axles stickin out....

I think he didn't pop the spring pins... He said he used a pry bar to get axles off tranny. Re-install was fine too... Why do you have to remove front diff to get stubbies off? They aren't just springed in? .

The 5 and 6 speed stub axles are totally incompatable.

First of all you are talking about FRONT diff, not center.

You do not need to open the tranny up to put the output shafts in. You just need to uncscrew the bearing cups and do it that way as there is a c-clip in there.

I recomment getting new seals and bearing cup o-ring as well.

One of the 6MT swaps I did, also did not have the output shafts in there. I had to order them from JDM land, as the US ones are different front what I know. Also, it depends if you have front SureTrack LSD in that tranny you have or not.

Your tranny should have a white sticker around the top (starter area) which has the tranny ID code. Using it, you can ID the tranny and know exactly where it came from and if it has a front LSD. Then you can order proper output shafts.

Hope this helps.

Well, anyways, i got this all figured out... Might as well post my findings. I took the stub axles out of USDM 5 speed, and cracked open the front bellhousing of the JDM 6 speed...

The stub axles, slid right in. I used the old C-clips to hold the stubbies in place. Torqued the bellhousing on. Bam! All done. Worked all out great. No problems! If anyone has any questions as the swap, i just finished mine, using a 93 Royale rear diff. So. Anyways. Thanks for everyones help!

Everything LOOKS alright... its hard to tell with a blurry pic... You got pressure plate and flywheel i'm guessing, so i cant see anything else... Maybe the master clutch cylinder? I cant tell if its there or not. The STi one is different and beefier. Not sure if the old one matches up with the release fork. Cause i know the forks are Definitely different as well.
