i still have a noise
my tranny broke a while ago
i had it rebuilt with ra gears and a front lsd.
shortly after i noticed a frinding popping sound from the front passenger side.
trying to diagnose the problem i saw that the cv boot was leaking grease where the cv boot clamps onto the axle.
i ordered heavy duty axles from driveshaftshop.com they were still in production and they wouldnt be in for a week so
i also ordered a new act atreet clutch set and the streetlight flywheel.
i got my car back yesterday and well that damn noise is still there.
it sounds like if there were a set of gears right at the wheel and they arent 100%aligned. but obviously there arent any there. the sound is only under acceleration and not in deceleration. it increases as i turn left and decreases as i turn right. it is ore noticable at lower speeds (1-45) than at higher speeds.
the sound seems to originate more from the wheel than from the center of the car. so i dont think there are any tranny/lsd problems, but i have no idea now.
the only other thing i could think of is the wheel bearing, which i didnt think to replace when i did the axles and clutch the sound is only therte under acceleration and turnintg to the left. there is absoutely nothing coming from the drivers side.
the setup is
v6 sti ra gears
v6 sti helical front lsd
(about 3000 miles on those)
act streetlight flkywheel
act street clutch disc
act heavyduty pressure plate
driveshaftshop.com heavy duty front axles (with the stock abs gear ring)
(about 40 miles on those)

Did you notice any instability under braking? Use a lot of caution if you test your car under braking because if the wheel bearing goes you'll have a lot more problems.
Sport Compact Car Magazine had a final write-up on their project WRX and it failed one of the wheel bearings after they put a lot of hard miles on the car.
