I believe the 04-06 trannies are the same. If you want to launch I would recommend riding the clutch just a tad so you don't "shock" the drivetrain and eventually break something. When you are on the clutch and getting ready to take off make sure that all the slack is out of the drivetrain, you can tell if the slack is out by letting off the clutch just enough that you feel the car try to move. 3k rpm and ride the clutch a little bit will save the tranny from getting smoked.

i've often heard the local mechanics say that the WRX gearboxes are like 'glass'

I have 82k miles with original clutch and i've had no problems on my '02 ('02/'03s are notorious for being "the" weak trannies). If you're dropping the clutch at every stoplight then it's not gonna last long but i've done my share of spirited driving and still goin strong. If you dont drive like a spazz it should be fine.

sorry, i didnt mean to give off the wrong impression. the factory tranny is built to withstand factory power. as long as you're not doing extensive power mods, the tranny will work like like a charm

The synchros are pretty crappy but they aren't any worse than any of the Hondas i've had. A bunch of guys are "stage2" with stock trannies. I think it would be time for an STI tranny or RA gears after a turbo larger than the VF series is installed.

Your tranny will be fine if you treat it like it's glass. Don't dump the clutch at high revs. Rev to about 4k, slip a bit, then mash the trottle as you quickly let out the clutch. Apply power when your in gear. If it goes, it goes. Tuff beans. Get it replaced, upgrade, whatever. Welcome to racing, your gonna break stuff.

QFT. You pay to play.

Just don't rev the crap out of your engine then do a straight clutch dump.

Im running an fp green on my 06. 13k miles and the tranny shredded on the dyno. In the middle of 3rd. Needless to say im trying to find a straight forward answer if ra gears will work in the 06s. (there has been a lot of talk that they won't work, but apparently theres some guys that have them) or whether I should just drop 6k on the 6spd.
