How far to depress clutch when upshifting?

Hey all I picked up a 05 WRX about a month ago and it's my first manual car. I'm wondering about how far do I need to depress the clutch when upshifting. Starting from 1st gear I push it in all the way give it some gas and then slowly let it up till it engages. The clutch in my 05 engages at about 3/4 off the floor. But for shifting up from gears above 1st, i've been told two things by different friends so far.
1) Push it in only enough to disengage it. (this would be slightly below 3/4 off the floor) Then let it up.
And
2) Push it all the way down to the floor then let it up.

What do you all think? Which do you do nomally?

push it down all the way, why would you risk grinding on a box that's easy to mess up?

you should push it all the way down, its easier on the syncros that way and it will make it easier to shift

Make sure the clutch is entirely disengaged. I would think most people don't floor their clutch on every upshift. I know I don't. You'll probably notice if the cluth is still slipping during upshifts.

All the way down is the safest way to go.

No wonder there are so many complaints about the wrx transmission. In 5k we will see, "Difficulty down shifting to 1st", "My car won't go into reverse" and "It grinds going from 3rd to 4th".

A manual transmission is just that, manual. You press the clutch all they way on each shift. If the transmission screams, scratchs, whines, grinds, crunches, smokes or smells funky - - - YOU have done something wrong - - - not the transmission.

Example: noob says:"I have only done 9 or 10 drag starts where I drop the clutch at 5k rpm, why is it difficult to shift fron 3rd to 4th now and why does my transmission whine when I decelerate? It must be the crappy suby transmission, should I put some super tranny cocktail in to fix it?" Guys, come on . . . listen to what you mother taught you . . . treat her with respect and it will last a long time.

Take a moment and lean about what a transmission is. It is a complex set of gears and a clutch that transfers the mighty power of your engine to the rubber things that your car rides on.

Take a look, http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm your gears are pretty small in comparision to the rest of your car parts, yet they are the gizmos that make your car go forward and backward.
