How do know if my gears are grinding?

Hello,

After reading many threads on the forum, I'm very confused between notchy and grinding for tranny gears. Can anyone explaine to me how to determine these two?

Thanks for the help

Grinding is bad, you can hear it, not a good sound. If you try to engage a gear without the clutch it will grind (unless you've mastered the clutchless shift)

The notchiness is just the way the shifter feels, like when shifting 1st --> 2nd you can feel the shifter 'notch' into place, as opposed to a slidey, buttery feeling where the shifter is really fast...get it??
