Grinding in First
It must have happened to me five times today. I'm rolling to a stoplight and pop the stick out of gear so I can let go of the clutch at the stop. When the light turns green and I shift to first, I get this harsh vibration in the stick and the feeling that I just grinded something in my trany. Does anyone have a clue on what's happening. I don't think putting in a SubyDude short throw shifter would do all that to me.

did u change the tranny fluid with synthetic, if the answer is yes then there lies the answer to your mystery. just happened to me about month ago. my solution took one quart out, and mixed it with subaru gear oil. now perfect as can be.

If anyone else has any possible ideas of whats wrong, please post it. Because I hardly think that a short throw shifter will cause all that grinding.
just changed my tranny with ~2.7 quarts valvoline full synthetic 75w90 with 1 quart Syncromesh, so far so good... synchro's seem to match up gears smoother...
i also did my rear diff with redline 75w90... so far so good... i would flush your tranny fluid though, usually thats the problem with simple grinding

they wont know what u put in your tranny.. cuz it all comes out pretty black ne way after a lot of use.
I would just suggest doing a full tranny flush.. ie - GL-5 goop prefferably 75w90.
and your rear differential while your at it... this can be done in not a lot of time and is very easy to do.. just make sure you use a scissor jack to get off your rear differential bolts because they are very tight
