gimmie gears

yup... just destroyed my transmission. i called gimmie gears today and had a nice talk to them about their gears, and i found out that they are practically indestructable. they use them in rally cars! does anyone have them on their car? what do you think of em?
also i keep reading about people destroying syncros... my friend works for subaru and he tells me hes never had anyone with broken syncros, its the first gear that usually goes. hes said 99% of the wrx's have broken first gears or input shaft bearings...

They are not indestructable. Infact, there probably isn't a box out there that can't be broken. Even complete dog boxes that have no synchro's in favor of larger gears can be stripped from improper use/technique. Chalak and MRT come to mind....

However, that is not to say that Gimmiegear is full of it, as I do not think they are. The main thing is that you have a place that does the installation right the first time that way you dont have something that is misaligned and will fail under a particular circumstance. Oh and dont assume that you can do 5k+ RPM clutch drops since you just dropped a few grand on upgraded gears.

so what gear set do you recommend? this is my daily driver with some highway. i need something that is reliable , i am hurting for loot and once i drop a new tranny i want it to last awhile. i dont do too many 4-5k launches... actually id otn even drive hard unless someone next to me is lunchin.
and yea i gimmie gears dont come with a full kit.. just the input shaft , 1-5 gears , and drive gears... no syncros.

I like the gimmie gear set actually, but it's a bit too pricey for my blood. Perhaps as a lower cost alternative is the Kaaz gearset or the STi RA gearset.

Heh, I've never been in a car with a dog box, but if it sounds anything like a gear-driven cam on a small block Chevy, its definitely not streetable.
