maybe a little off the subject, but will a new clutch/flywheel help the tranny last longer?

I'd love to go to a bigger turbo but my advice is.. if ya can't afford a new tranny, don't do it. I'd be so screwed if my tranny blew. Bleh, makes me sick just thinking about it!
Ya, dealership changed it. I bought some service thing when I purchased my car where they do all that stuff on a regular basis for a flat charge. (Fluids, rotations, ect.)

btw, I just ordered Uncle Scotty's Cocktail mix from Grimmspeed for my next tranny rebuild. :RockOn - not mine:

How much was your last tranny rebuild?

BTW...sounds like you need a rear diff lock down kit.

common misconception. RA gears are not super strong, people forget (or don't know because whoever told them forgot or diet know) the stronger gears are the cryo treated gears.

02 wrx had the weakest gears and supposedly they were widened in 03, 05 they fixed the syncro problem with getting into 1st.

That all said, you should be fine with the vf34 and your stock gears if you know how to drive. If you do t know howto drive, it doesn't matter how strong your gears are, you're gonna break something
