Forrester XT Tranny???
OK, I'm just putting this out there and hoping someone can tell me. I e-mailed my Subaru dealer to ask them about the "new" (I'm not sure if it's a new design or not) Forrester XT Tranny. I wanted to know if it was built better or worse than the WRX 5-speed, would it fit on a WRX, what are the ratios, etc. and all I ever got in return were a bunch of junk e-mails about financing and used cars. Do any of you guys know anything about this tranny? Please help
Cheers,
Joel

BlingBlingBlue is correct, and it's unfortunate that Bemani "corrected" him with incorrect information. The ratios he attributed to the XT are those of the standard naturally-aspirated Forester, NOT the XT.
The ratios in the XT 5-speed manual gearbox are identical to those in the WRX.
The XT does, however, use a shorter final drive than either the standard Forester (4.11) or the WRX (3.9). The XT's final drive ratio is 4.44.

more questions
Sorry, but engines I'm good at, Tranny's I always have other people do. What's a TCU?, also, Will it bolt right up, (i.e. driveshaft the same length, halfshafts, rear diff etc.) and is it stronger??? I've heard it was cryo treated? is it a cost effective viable option to the super expensive 6MT swap??? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

Drive ratios here:

The gears in the XT (maybe other foresters I don't know) are wider. They say it's to keep the noise down. It's mentioned here:

Thanks, Peaty and Ballistic. I guess C&D magazine should check their technical specs before publishing. Sorry if I added to the confusion...

The odd thing about the incorrect XT 5MT ratios listed in the Car & Driver table is that some of their performance data also seems to have been based solely on calculations using the incorrect ratios. for example, (as I recall) they listed the max speed as 129MPH at 5,900 RPMs. With the correct 5th gear and final drive ratios, 129 would be more like 5,600 RPMs - a substantial difference that you'd think they would have seen if they actually drove their text XT to that speed. Had they noticed that the actual tach reading didn't correspond to their calculated MPH-per-1000-in-5th, they would have been tipped off that their listed gear ratios were incorrect.
