Fix My Driveline Lurchy-Boingy-Boingies!

I'm sure this has been addressed in the forums in the past, but since I don't know what to call the problem, I couldn't find it in search. I want to get rid of the rubber bands I currently have in my drive train. When you're at or very near neutral throttle, especially in 1st or 2nd, the car will make the transition from very-slightly-positive through neutral to very-slightly-negative throttle with an extreme lack of grace. It will bounce back and forth several times every time the transition is made. In addition, when you step on the throttle, you can feel a split-second's delay as everything tightens up and then the car launches forward.

For example, picture driving in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway. Since I drive a manual, I like as little stop and as much go as possible. Obviously, this means leaving it in first and creeping along at idle or just above. However, crazily tiny movements of the right foot (i.e. trying to move from idle to idle+100 RPM or vice versa) result in the car lurching back and forth several times as the tension in the drive line changes direction and echoes throughout the system. It's so bad that idling along in traffic with the air con on will cause the car to lurch as the compressor cycles on and off.

I've recently driven a WRX TR which didn't do this at all. While idling along in traffic it would just react once to throttle changes. Lift your foot... car slows down a hair all at once. Same thing on stepping on it too, the car just went.

Obviously, this means there's a parts difference between my 2.5RS and the WRX. It also means that my problem is conquerable. So what bits do I need to install to make the lurchy-boingy-boingies go away?

My 05 RS does the same thing, traffic and speed bumps are a pain. I don't know if there is much that can be done to fix this, if there is I am all ears, but I think it's just the gearing in the tranny. I think your discription "Lurchy-boingy-boingies" is a great discribtion, and hilarious.
