Daily drive shifting

Alright I've got a question for the transmission gurus out there. Here's the situation...

When I'm driving normally just to get to and from a place, moving the shifter gets tricky.

1st-2nd: under normal accel. shifter comes out of 1st normally and getting it into the 2nd position takes about a 1/4 second before actually going in (no grinding or any bad noises tho).

2nd-3rd: an okay (seemingly normal) shift

3rd-4th: again takes a lil bit longer to get into gear

Downshifting through any of hte gears works like a charm however. What I notice is that its the gears positioned lower on the shifter (aka 2 & 4) are the problematic children...
Is that normal? Are my syncros acting up or am I just worrying over nothin?

Also, getting shifter back into first takes a while as well. I have to be rolling like 1 or 0 mph before it gets into first, that normal as well? No grinding, not a big deal either, j/w.

TIA

Couple things can cause this.

My first guess would be your synchros are getting worn out, and will need to be replaced soon.

Second guess would be the clutch itself. (How many miles on the car?)

However, my recommendation would be to have all your synchro's replaced and have your clutch/flywheel looked at, at the same time, and replaced if necessary.

Also, second gear and reverse share the same synchro, so that particular one gets used/worn faster than the others.

This is normal wear and tear from what I am seeing here. So unless you totally abuse your transmission and/or aren't really good at driving a stick, I'd say that your problem is a pretty normal one.

thanks for the reply. weird tho, might have to have someone drive my car so they themselves could feel it. The car is still pretty new (reaching 1 year this November) and only like <6k miles on it. I don't wanna say I'm a terrible stick shift driver but I know I don't bang up the gears or cluch in/out too soon.

I might still get it checked at a dealership tho.
