I was reading an article on the new clutchless auto/manual that Audi is putting in (I believe) their new TT as an option. It looked pretty cool, you could drive either as an automatic or manual with no ridiculous TC-induced power loss. Of course, it's an Audi, so it'll spend 360 days of the year in a shop, but it's a nice idea.

Hmm, odd. My Subaru came from the factory with a manual tranny that doesn't require clutching (at least after I start out). And so did all the other MT cars I've ever owned.

If I remember right there was some Cusco part that was about $2k. Had something to do with a computer and a hydrolic actuator that made it possible to "bump" the shifter up or down to shift, no clutch!
Might have been more $, but I seem to remember www.raretrick.com and saying "holy ****" when I saw it, check there and let us know. If I remember right the actuator was mounted in the trunk and there was an application specific computer for the WRX.

Update: It is on www.raretrick.com and its under the "rare parts" category. Its a system made by 5Zigen and it goes for around $1800 and you have to modify the lines for LHD. Check it out anyway.
Cant you just find the friction point and shift then? for example pull it out second at 4000 rpm if you used the clutch and went to third you would be at say 2000 rpm. All you have to do is know your car, pull it out of second at 4 and put the engine at 2, at this point the shifter will slide into place. It takes some getting used to and if you push to hard at the wrong rpm's you will grind but its fun to do. I learned this from my dad who used to race cars when I had a 1982 honda crx that had a clutch that had died in it. I would drive it everywhere as long as there wasnt a need for reverse. Stoplights were kind of a pain in the ***, ride the gas and the brake to not stall.
