If you have a 5 speed, you probably already know. On cold/damp mornings, and sometimes when it's not, Impreza clutches don't like to slip.. so they bang around and cause these god-awful vibrations and make you look like a total dork behind the wheel.

I have an '03 with 1k miles, what exactly does clutch "shudder" feel like?

It won't matter how many times the car as been sold, as long as it is less than 60 months old and has less than 60,000 miles on it. As long as you don't have forced induction, nitrous, or cams, you should be okay with the mods. And any dealer anywhere can do the service, doesn't have to be the one you bought it at.

Of course. I just didn't know if that's what "heavily modded" meant. If he's still N/A he should be ok. Suspension/brake/interior/exterior mods shouldn't affect the drivetrain warranty, and minor engine mods like intake and exhaust don't either with a good service department.

Got mine back from Livermore Subaru today. They said it was normal at first but when I mentioned the TSB, they looked it up and put in the revised clutch assembly. We'll see if it shudders tomorrow morning. But it definitely feels better so far. It's much easier to start moving on steep hills, and easier to get moving at low RPM on flat ground. Some of the jerkiness in the 1-2 shift is gone. And the pedal is quite a bit lighter.

Can someone confirm that this would be covered up to 60 months or 60K mi? I have the shudder, 48 months, 55K mi. I thought I'd be out of the warranty period so I just make sure the car is good and warm first thing in the morning. When it is cold and damp it still doesn't happen all the time. I figured I'd be saving for a improved beefier clutch down the road anyway.

Subaru powertrain warranty is 60 months and 50,000 miles, I believe it's been that way for quite some time. Also, manufacturers have been known to extend "goodwill" coverage on occasion even if you are a little bit past the limits, but never count on it.
