Stupid question...I no. But I took off the instalation carpet thing because it was falling off. But then I wonder why they have this? What's it do? Is anything going to happen if I just leave it? Should I buy a new one?

Always knew they were under the hoods of cars but never asked the question why?

 

It works as a heat shield, so paint on the hood doesn't get faded. Also it reduces noises from under the hood, I think

 

its suppose to be fire suppression too from what i hear but i have no clue

They're relatively cheap, you should replace it asap so you don't cook the paint on your hood!

You will be fine with out it, you won't damage the paint on the hood. Numerous people on iwsti have removed theirs, mine has been off the car for 30,000 miles with no problems at all!
