bushings

I have searched but I haven't found anything that clearly defined my question. I am going to buy a short shifter and bushings, this shifter is much different than my old Nova, where do the bushings go? Do they connect the shifter to the linkage, or the levers to the tranny? Thanks, and how difficult is the install? I know the shifter itself will be a breeze, are the bushings difficult?

Bushings are down near the tranny at the pivot point for the shift linkage (rods). Both shifter and bushings are an easy install with proper tools, jack, and stands. Took me a half hour but others have done them both in 20 minutes.

ScoobyMods tutorial on bushings install.

This was my very first mod EVER. I did it by myself and it wasn't bad at all. Hope this eases any concerns.

....for the bushing.....ya gotta jack and stand the drivers side....find the bushing on the side of the tranny.....take the nut off the stud....take the funky washer off the stud, remembering which way it goes ....spray the bushing with a bit of lubricant like LPS or whatever ya got(I do NOT use WD40 on anything but the mower).....put the nut back on the stud(NO washer) and PULL the shifter arm firmly, but carefully away from the tranny.....the bushing will stay on the stud....take the nut off....pull the bushing off....put the GREASED new bushing half(assuming a 2-piece bushing---they are easier) on the stud, put the arm on and push it against the tranny while putting the other GREASED bushing half on the stud....put the washer on....put the nut on the stud and tighten it ***slowly*** and tighten to 13ft-lbs.

BEWARE...that stud will break off in a half a heartbeat!!!!! Do not overtorque it

...for the shifter.....ya just gotta make sure ya don't bork the threads on it when ya whack into the socket....you can screw a lugnut on the threads(same 12x1.25 thread) to protect them
