My stock 2.5 produces a very high pitched whine at speeds above 40 mph. Not so loud that the radio won't cover it, but present and annoying. Has anyone had this problem, and found a solution?
Are you sure its the transmission and not a wheel bearing? A bad bearing will whine like that and they seem to be a relatively common thing to have go out.
Hmmm, no I am not sure it is coming from the tranny. This has been happening since the day we bought it (new), and has not really gotten worse over 50K miles. I have read of some front end troubles with the Forester, though and have it checked out.
Yeah most Subarus that I know of have a whining noise. I have it on my WRX and it seems to be pretty normal because of the AWD system. Not sure though. But I do have to agree that a bad wheel bearing will make a really bad whining noise.
