Earlier this year (day of the Mt. Hammy I-club meet) my friend topped my ATF fluid (yes, I have a 4EAT) because my AT Oil Temp light was on. Unfortunately he poured the ATF into the front diff spot. It hasnt caused any problems so far.

Today I was changing my tranny fluid for the first time, and I remembered where my friend had poured the ATF into the same spot my buddy had....only to finally realize it was the wrong spot. the fluid is currently draining, but is it going to be a problem once I refill with the correct GL-5 fluid? I know someone in another thread said that the AT and front tranny share the same fluid, but I think he was thinking of the MT's.

ATF is totally different than manual tranny oil.

Front diff and Mt tranny would share the same grade differential oil.

I'll have to look, but I think flushing the diff with kerosesne might be a good idea. I've had friends flush trannies with keorosene (because it will evaporate if any is left) to help clean them out. Might be a good idea for your front differential.

 

what the hell do you do with the keorosene afterwards?? I might do that eventually, but for now I just let th diff drain for 9 hours and filled it with the right fluid. I didnt seem to have any problems from when H-art topped it off with ATF at Mt. Hammy, so hopefully there wont be any ill effects from this incident.

 

take the contaminated kerosene to the waste management facility in Salinas

 

you should be fine.

while atf is no gear lube, they will mix with each other quite readily.

i'd be more worried about the kero than the atf to be honest.
