My STi short shifter is kinda notchy. I don't know how it is compared to a stock one though.

I have a Momo ****. I love it. When I ordered the car I got the STi Titanium ****. But that wasn't comfortable for the way I shift, so I sold it and got a Momo. I don't know if it'll make for a smoother shift though.

Plus remember, that the more you use your shifter it will smooth out a bit as it "wears in." Mine did, when it was new it was very rough and felt funky to me too...but as I drove more the shifts became smoother as the parts broke in. But the short shifter will feel more notchy and precise by design, that is just a trait of a STS.

Contrary to other opinions, the Kartboy lever in my car is smoother than the stock setup. I only put in the lever, NOT the Kartboy bushing because I didn't want it to be too notchy. Its precise enough with the stock bushing. One thing I did that certainly helped was I liberally greased the rod bushing with teflon grease.

I really liked my Kartboy S/S with KB bushings, it worked great.

But then you really need to do the STi motor & tranny mounts too, to keep the motor and tranny from twisting during hard acceleration.

I do know that that the Cusco mounts & bushings are stiffer than Kartboy.

why would changing the leverage do anything to change the speed the synchros work? why are people so lazy to move their shifter 1 less inch than normal? just get more aggressive tranny oil...

Subarureview.com has a lot of good reviews on how the shifter feels after doing a number of mods to the tranny. Good Luck

Hey Tommy-

Mike was saying he didn't like the Redline MT-90 and actually went back to the factory tranny oil. Have you guys found anything better these days?

4 steps to make it shift like a Honda:

1) Motul Gear 300 lube
2) Sti engine and trans mounts
3) bushings
4) short shifter

This is my current configuration and the order I would recommend the mods be done.

Of course, like everybody else, the first thing I did was the shifter and bushings -- better but not quite right.

The Motul made the biggest difference -- you have to try it to believe it. And like everybody else, I tried the Redline first -- better than dino but the Motul blows it away.

And if you're not going to do the Sti mounts, take the bushings back out -- they don't work well with the soft stock mounts --that's whats causing the binding and refusal to go into gear.

anyone else thinks it's a transmisison fluid that makes the difference?
