Question ACT vs. Exedy

ok time to buy a clutch.... weighing in the options wondering if it is worth it to spend the extra hundred dollars on an ACT versus just buying an exedy...

options are:

you are probably just gonna get a split vote. Go with an rps max clutch i have only heard good things about them, opposed to the others where you hear negatives on both. LIC motorsports sells the rps.

Cant speak for exedy untill I try my new clutch out, but I had a ACT 6 puck with about 25k ish and it took a crap already (pressure plate shot). Never beat the crap out of it at all, did 2-3 soft launches in its whole life. other than that normal driving. Not to mention it was the absolute worst clutch pedal I have ever felt, sooo heavy and the margin for error was pretty much nil. I did have a ACT hdss on my old se-r and it was pretty good, but the pressure plate was waaay smaller than the sti's.

We will see with the new exedy stage 1....but anything has to be better than the act.

Just word of mouth not personal experience I would go with the exedy at your power levels the ACT may not be neccessary. I have heard the exedy will give you more clutch life and be more like the OEM unit as far as clutch feel.

When in the hell did ever say I loved my 6 puck? I have hated that clutch ever since I've had it. Worst clutch evaaar! I am literally having left knee problems just from this clutch, it got soo bad that I was trying to figure out ways to get to work other than driving the STi because it hurt too bad.

It wouldn't be soo bad if you didn't have to hold the clutch halfway in for a bit when trying to get going. But in the HWY 4 satans spawn of traffic hell, you have to start and stop about a million times. And that last 10k or so it started to make squealing noise whenever I would engage the clutch, and when I would turn the AC on it would make a crazy rattling sound when the clutch was out in neutral (which explains why Paul said the presure plate was shot when he took it apart).

But as far as the motor goes. Its in the process of getting swapped as we speak. Having some other issues come up, but most importantly we are getting everything fixed right so I don't have problems anymore.
