6 speed swap or PPG 1-4

6 speed swap or PPG 1-4
yeah i know your going to want it to be in a tech section. but i want your guy's opinions. im having a very hard time deciding.
if i do the 6 speed it will be the trans, shifter, driveshaft, R180, all 4 axels, rear hubs and rear bremos, and a standalone dccd controler (neetronics most likely).
or PPG 1-4 with straight cut 1 and 2 and helical 3 and 4 with the stock 5th. with all new synchro's and maybe bearings. most likely the stock diffs, but im open to suggestions on good, affordable aftermarket diffs as well. ide need to replace one of my front axels that has been on its way out for awhile now. ide also be buying a spare trans to do this build in.
ide be getting a ACT clutch and flywheel with either.
the 5 speed would be stronger than the 6 speed in this case. but the sti driveline is stouter. i think both would come out to very similar costs. the 5 speed SHOULD be an easier install, its much less involved anyways. i would be doing the gear install by myself BTW, i do have experience with transmissions, and ive talked to people that have done work on the 5 speeds.

6MT. Still stronger overall than a beefed-up 5MT. The 6MT is a completely different design, not just six forward gears stuffed into a 5-speed box.

why not just get a non-dccd 6spd? it will be stronger than the dccd 6spd, also will you REALLY need to use dccd? i think you may since you go to the snow somewhat and would beneficial for you to lock up the diffs, but i dunno. since i have an RS and never have used DCCD i really dont know if its truely beneficial.

If you don't need DCCD, follow the hatteroo's advice and get a 6MT w/o DCCD.

i dont neeeeeeeeeeed dccd, but if im gonna go with a 6 speed, i might as well get one with it. it'll be easier to find.
Paul: info on the dog boxes please. i know those cost a pretty penny and are a pain for street driving. but if the price is right.......

you can get a dccd tranny without the controller and it will basically function as a rear wheel drive car, but will still put 'some' power to the front wheels if you don't put too much power to it. with the dccd controller, i got mine from rallispec, you can have all the fun of a RWD car with the benefits of an AWD car when you want it.
The STi 6-MT makes a WRX SO much more fun and you have to do alot of mods to make enough power to overpower it. The swap is pretty easy and you only "need" a 3.9 ring and pinion for the rear diff, and a driveshaft with the tranny.

Which DCCD 6MT would you get? 04, 05, and 06 STis have different variations. 06 has the different torque split with a different type of diff plus the addition of a steering input. 04 and 05 had the different ways of measuring rotation (lateral G vs. Yaw rate)
