4wd manual activation switch?

howdy! I searched and found nothing.

on my 2000 rs auto the 4wd comes on when the front tires slip but I would like to have it on all the time if I'm racing around on snow,

Is there a way to wire or something to solve this problem?

I wonder if mine has a problem because if I spin the front tires alot the back end will turn on with a big thud is that normal?

thanks in advance

I think the AT cars have 90F 10R torque distribution. So yes, the fronts are more likely to spin. Also, you have an LSD in the rear (maybe) and the front diff is open.

yeah, but with an auto when starting from trafic light the distribution is 90:10 and it takes time to engage...moreoever it looks stupid from outside seeing a Subaru burning front wheels....
so I have to put it into 1 every time I want a fixed 50/50

does that make a difference putting the car in 1-2-3 instead of drive in reference to the" torque split" ?

I will try that and get back.

The torque split is locked 50/50 in 1 and 2. 3 and D are the normal 90/10 split unless slippage is detected. I hear that thud a lot, too, and wish it would either engage faster or smoother, but at least I know it's working. I would not recommend rigging it to lock 50/50 all the time (if it is possible). It will cause excessive wear on the clutch pack.

what I would want is when I am on a snowy windy road I could turn a switch to lock it on. and turn it back to auto for normal driving.

thanks for the replys
