2002 WRX: Do you have this noise?........
I have this noise that comes from my transmission when I am in third or fourth gear. It only comes when I am coasting or engine braking. That is to say when I am not at all on the gas, or just kinda coasting along. It is a kind of growl, and goes away as soon as I either give it gas, or press in the clutch?
It almost sounds like a gear back lash problem, but I never heard of that happening in a transmission.
Anyone have an idea what I am talking about or hearing the same thing??
it seems like since they replaced my clutch, it is doing it more????
Thanks for any information.

An easy way to know if this is the noise , play with your tyre pressures as described in that thread.
If you do need to show your service department, have a play with the problem, so that you can easily make it happen. I found it hard to recreate with 2 people in the car, yet, when I was on my own, was very easy to make happen time after time. Turning the A/C on also had an effect.
Good luck
