2001 RS, might need a clutch soon - what and why?
I have looked around a little - and it seems like this would be a sticky, but.. I dunno. My car has 57k miles on the stock clutch, and it's chattering pretty bad when cold as well as engaging pretty high. I think it's on it's way out..
I have had good luck with ACT clutches in other cars. Do they make good stuff for Suby's? What clutch have YOU used, what's it like, and would you get it again?
Any idea what a ballpark figure should be for a shop to r/r the clutch, t/o bearing, pp and resurface flywheel?
Thanks,
Jacob

I personally have an exedy flywheel and "stage 1" clutch. It's Exedy's first step stronger than stock (they make the OE clutch, BTW). I love my flywheel- I would highly recommend getting one at the same time as your clutch, since it adds almost no labor time and shouldn't cost more than $400 or so. I paid $1000 total for my clutch setup, installed. A good performance shop that has experience with Subarus should be able to give you a price close to that on Exedy, ACT, or almost any other similar combination.
FWIW, I haven't heard much bad about any of the more common clutch and flywheel combos around. No reason not to simply choose on price, as long as you're comparing comparable products.

wombatsauce- we have ACT flywheel/ Exedy Sport clutch combos available for your car: $525 for parts. If you want the Exedy flywheel/ clutch combo: $575. I know Gino charges $400 to install clutches so that will make the total package under $1000. Let me know if this interests you.
