Well assuming you've made sure that your car shares the same gear ratio as the donor. You can also use the rear diff from a 2000 model RS since they had a LSD rear diff. You will also need the axles though since the stock rear diff in your car uses different axles. So you could use a MY00-01 if you wanted but for the newer GD bodied cars the WRX is the only one with a rear LSD since the 2.5L doesn't have a rear LSD. I'd install the MY00-01 rear diff since its already proven to work and you should be able to find them.

This might be offtopic but....
Why r u doing the swap?
Do you want the LSD or is your diff broken?
if you want the LSD, go to
http://home.att.net/~teaguesauto/transmis.htm
and look at the drivetrain products
$995 for the rear
if it is broken r u upgrading at the same time?
and going to try to fit a rear diff from something else with a LSD.
all parts should bolt up if you get the 00-01 rear but as N/A said other parts may need to be exchanged to make it work
and from what I understand (Im think this is right) the rear ratio should be 4.111 for all Subarus except 3.9 in Legacy turbo and USDM WRX

I think ravensblade or one of the other sites lists the different gear ratios and there are a couple. It depends on the year of the vehicle and the transmission type used.
I assume that you want the LSD because you hate the open rear diff as much as I do.

ok heres the deal, I swapped a 95wrx motor into my99. I have had people tell me that i will need a rear diff with a 3.90 ratio, and i have had people tell me that 95wrx tranny should have a 4.11 ratio therefore i could use my99 rear diff.
But if i do need a 3.90 rear diff, what cars besides the legacy turbo have a LSD rear diff, that i can use with out major work.I would like to replace just the diff, if possible
thanks

The gear ratio like I said could still be anything since you don't know what model of 95 WRX it came out of. If possible track down the gear ratio and if not you might have to use your 99RS transmission and rear diff until you can find out. That way you don't end up destroying your transfercase in the meantime.

doesn't matter what ratio you use, as long at the front diff and rear diff ratios are the same...
3.90 is WRX, however, if you are still using the RS tranny, maybe just swapping a 00-01 reat diff with the axles will do you.

your gear ratios have to match up with the rear lsd? how intresting. how do i find out what ratios i have? or another question would be where can i get myself a RS tranny, rear axles and LSD unit. what else do i need? is this worth doing.

You can get the gearbox and whatnot from RCSR in Rancho Cordova. Since you havea JDM engine, I would think it likely you got the WRX gearbox too. If you post the max speeds at redline in each gear we can make an educated guess.
Edit: Per Brian of Ravensblade-Impreza.com, your ratio would be 4.11 if you have your RS transmission. I am uncertain what the '95 WRX gearbox uses at this time. Ratio chart.
