Why Is My Auto Tranny Doing This????
So On the street I can hold the brake and build up boost off the the line to 3000 rpms (After 3000 rpms it dumps the boost)and launch off 10 to 15 psi with no problem...Snaps your head back pretty good.
but I have gone to the track 2 times now and it WILL NOT LET ME DO THIS!!!!..I can run it up to 2000 RPMS and thats it and it wont build boost...and it launches like total crap...we are talkin 2.5
60 fts!!!
So I leave the track I get down the road a mile or so stop at a light and it will let me do it then!!!
Note: both time I have let the car cool down and had it running at normal temps.
Whats the deal??????
Does the car need a certain amount of airflow going through it to allow this?? or?????
This only happens at the track no other time.
Any suggestions would be helpfull.
Thanks Tina

you don't have enough time to get the revs up maybe. Try this, when you stage only trip the first set of lights. As you know, when you are pulling up there are 2 sets of lights that must be lit before they start the tree. Light only the first one. Let your opponent stage completely, then start revving up. Once it is close to the 3000 mark, let off the brake just a little to creep forward tripping the next set of lights. By that time the guy will start the tree and you are off with a good launch.
Or you can hurry up and get set up first. Before the other guy even trips the first light, you have already lit both sets of lights and are aready revving up. That's what I do in order to get a good launch. The best 60' i got with my auto was like 1.9xx. you should look into getting a modified Torque Convertor. A 4200rpm stall speed is very nice. I don't have mine yet, but an working on it.

Hey thanks for the reply..I know what you mean about not having enough time..But It even happens when i go off in the back off the pits to test it out when i have all the time in the world and it still does it.
I was told by a few people i most likely need a tranny cooler...that these are very tempermental about temp and altitude and such.
Since I drive this car in the winter a cooler may not be such a great idea..i hear they dont shift because the tranny fluid gets too cool.
Its a toss up i guess
Thanks Tina

Or maybe SUBARU knows what you are doing and is sending signals down from their secret satellites in the sky to mess with you. J/K it could be from waiting in line for your run like that other guy said. And just because you live in a cold climate a tranny cooler should not cool the fluid so much that it messes with the shifts.

Sort of off topic, but I don't see much about the auto WRX cars so I thought I'd jump in here. How are you guys with the auto's running at the track? My wife is looking at the WRX and wants an automatic, so I'm just trying to see how it performs. I'd prefer not to have to build up the revs by holding the brakes, as I want it to last her awhile. I already replace enough clutches on my cobra.

The auto tranny has a different AWD system. It is electronically contolled to redistribute power. Drag racing tracks treat the surface, so the cars can launch harder. Could your car's computer be reacting to the improved traction?
A bunch of people in the car would put more weight over the wheels and also improve traction. Could the computer be taking away boost to protect the drivetrain?

Lethalchem- dont get Auto, i hate it. Manual is so much fun to drive. I wish i had gotten manual.
I have a perrin down pipe, PDE up pipe, Greddy cat back, vishnu MBC @ 15 psi, unichip with TurboXS stage 2 on it and Sti air filter and removed silencer. my turbo timer says i run
5.1 0-60 mph and 13.6 1/4 mi.
with out a launch it says i run low 6s for 0-60.
