My guess is the clutch plate couldn't handle the load, so it slipped bad enough to cause you to stall. I wouldn't recommend trying that too many more times, however, unless you take it to Infineon on Wednesday nights, where we can all watch and learn from your technique.

i was at infineon on Wednesday.. iwas driving the 05 Blue Sti with gold rims.
drain the tranny fluid.....look and see if there is metal flakes.
You could have broken a tooth and the clunk could have been the tooth catching in the gears and getting grinded into pulp, which consequently would end the clunking once it's ground up.

Seriously though, do some homework on launching an AWD vehicle, especially if you have DCCD all on the rear.
If you honestly believe that you can do as many 6K dumps as you want without damaging the gears, diff, and axle shafts, then you have unreal expectations of your car.
If the car was designed to be launched all the time, then the life of those parts would be longer. But that is not the case. Cars do not last forever, especially if you are hard on them.
so, to diagnose your problem please be more specific as to what kind of bang it was. Did it sound like an engine backfire? Did it clunk underneath your car? did it come from the engine bay? where do you think it came from?

arent you the 18 y/o guy with the blue 05 sti thats from like hayward area that just got ur car like few weeks ago? and u have a friend with a white 05 sti that continuously launches at 7k right? did u buy a downpipe from me? haha
assuming you are this person, tell your friend with white sti to stop launching it that high~ try slipping at 4.5-5k instead. well i did mention that myself, but he kept telling me how the sti clutch can handle it no problem :x
hope all goes well..

Hmm well if you ask me a question like the one you asked is kinda an oxymoron. You want to know if you broke something because of a bang then an engine stall then you go on to say nothing is wrong and you drove it home like a champ after the fact that you launched it a few more times just to make sure it was fine??? You really can't get angry at people for being harsh.
In any case you should take it to either the dealer or your tuner and have it looked at.

its was a loud Clunk.
i tried launchiing it lower today and you can hear the rear diff or something slap around hitting the frame im guessing. so i think i might have broken a mount. im changing all the fluid and checking everything tomorrow.
and no i did not run a blue mr2.
at infineon i kept on popping out of first on launch (shoulda held it in first) so i got 2 ****ty runs out of the 3 runs.
the 1st run that i ever attempted at a TRACK was a 13.2 chopping through the gears a little early and gettnig into 5th like a gramma.
1.7 60ft time =) coulda been a 12 second pass if i took it a little higher b4 shifting and if i slammed it in 5th fast.

i really hope that the clutch just slipped real bad too. It sounds resonable enough.

Sorry for the Hijack..
You probably didnt snap your tranny but you still need to learn that launching at 6-7k RPM is a bad idea. Listen to what people suggest, your friends might not care if you bust your tranny and you might get away with the first couple times, but you will pay for carelessness by finding out the hard way what happens if you dont listen.
Launching at 4.5-5k also is another bad idea and that is why most clutches go out by 25-30k miles. Clutches aren't cheap also. The real answer that we don't want to hear is that Launching is never a good idea but we do it anyway because we don't notice any immidiate effects or until the car breaks down and wont run any longer. It's now starting to catch up with everyone that has reached that mileage and the clutch (besides the gears) are the first to go. Launch a couple times till you get the time that you are satisfied with then ease up on the launches unless you want to pay out the *** a year from now.
Let this be a lesson. When I am going for straight line speed I launch mine at about 3000. That's it and I still do fine. I don't see the justification of abusing the car. If subaru wanted us doing 5500+ clutch drops then they'd have said so in the owners manual.
