Fellas, i just blew 3rd gear in my 02 wrx and the dealership wont cover it.. so instead of paying a little less and sticking w/ the ****ty 5spd, i want to swap in an STI (usdm) 6spd into my car.
my question is, what are the only parts i need for this swap to merely function properly(bare bone minimum)??

In addition, what other parts are recommended w/ the swap to make it fully reliable and able to handle the STI 300hp's?

i'm no expert but i know you will need a tranny,

Then determine what rear differential to use. upgrade to a R180 (STi diff), or swap in a 3.9 ring and pinion into the stock R160 rear end. (if you want 300hp go R180)

a new driveshaft can be had out of a Impreza with and Automatic transmission
the 5 speed shaft is a different length so it won't work.

then find a trans mount and shifter assembly.

You are going to need a few things.

I just did a swap like this and am parting it out.

Tranny , driveline, rear diff, axels, Kuckels,

all of this bolts up to the wrx crossmembers so you are good there.

now if you want your DCCD to work you have to do a wiring harness swap.

the sti tranny is longer than the wrx by like an inch and a half.

and the axels are a lot beefier.

do not go with the auto RS driveline it is weak as all get out.

ok. at this point i need to do this swap asap to get my car driveable at the cheapest cost possible. I priced a new sti tranny at $3600 at the dealer! i dont know about you guys but that sounds pretty damn good. im sure that is JUST the trans and nothing else though. So thats my source for the trans, then ill need a drive shaft and new ring and pinion gears and sti shift linkage. Correct me if im wrong but these are the only necessary parts for the car to be road worthy?? Once i get myself out of debt for this setup i would like to start getting the parts that are necessary for reliability with 300+ hp. let me know what you guys think is the best route for the initial swap and then once i have a little money to invest in it.

why are you gettting rid of it? are all of those parts out of an sti? how much do you want for it all?
