Sti swap into 95 impreza?
Sti swap into 95 impreza?
Hey everyone, I just bought a 95 impreza 1.8L with the 5 speed. It runs amazing no leaks or anything however it is lacking in the get up and go. I used to drive an 04 STI so my sights are high. I would like to make this little car a sleeper car but wondering what engine can fit. I am wondering if I could take an entire STI engine bay and put it in place. I know it would take some work, ic spray boost guage and lots more...has it been done or what has been done. I've heard you can drop in the 2.2L and even the 2.5 but what will give me the power I am looking for? Thanks for the help everyone!
/\ You are correct. You can run pretty much any setup you choose, from a 1.8 to a 2.5 4-cyl, you can also get a flat-6 in there too!
If you install the same STI drivetrain into your L, It's gonna be a much quicker than the STI, mod for mod.
\/ These are pictures of my JDM STI swapped subi's (old 01 4-dr, new 98 2-dr)
EJ207, VF-37 turbo, JIC Ti cat-back, Walbro 255 FP, Zerosports Spec-C ECU De-tuned with Utec EM

\/ Not quite done and tuned yet, but she runs! Has a Non-catted, 3" DP, Jun WG actuator, and Prodrive 3-port boost solenoid ready before it's re-tuned, looking for 330-350 whp

^^ nice chart.
The reason why a STi swap into a GC body will blow away any STi is due to the fact that the GC bodies weigh a lot less the the GD bodies. In case you were wondering motorheadwannab

This is my 2001 RS. The motor is from a wrecked 04. The tranny from a JDM ver 5 type R. Remember ull need everything: the front crossmember, the entire engine wiring harness and ECU, the fuel tank/pump and fuel pump controller otherwise ull get fuel starvation during cornering. Then theres the Tranny. The stock L tranny wont hang so ull need the entire driveline and rear diff swapped and at least a good JDM 5 speed or the six speed will do. The JDM 5 speed was a better deal for me and the axles fit better (Newer cars have a wider track). The swap cost about 1/3 the price of an STI but everytime i step on the gas makes it worthwhile.

it is also good that you have a 95 because the 93-96 impreza's are about 6-700 lbs less than the 97-01 gc8's. they do not have all the same safty featurs tied into the body. so if you have good old fasion rollup windows you prity much have the lightest body you can use for durect boltin ej-swaps. I hope you get a swap done I think that is going to be my next project maby an older wrx motor into my 95L

I helped Dan out with this swap. It was a crap ton of work. He finally now has 2.5RS door cards with window motors and locking solenoids. it's amazing.
