Ls1 swap into 02-07 impreza wrx/sti

For sale: Custom Sub-frame for Subaru Impreza 02-07 to mount LS1/T56.
Includes: Subframe, mounts for LS1, transmission mounts, oil pan, and oil pick up.

This conversion is definitely not for the faint of heart but not difficult.

I had Versatile Automotive Performance build me this for a salvage title WRX I was going acquire. But things change, I'm going to invest in a house instead. You will have to contact Andy for more information - this is his one off mounting kit.

Any idea if the factory LS1 manifolds and cats will fit in the chassis? IE could you do this as a smog legal swap?

I did a RX7/LS1 swap that was smog legal back in the day.

Smog legal in CA. No chance. Engine has to be the same manufacturer as the chassis, same year or newer of the chassis, with all smog equipment that came on the donor engine, engine has to be sourced from the same type of car (ie; passenger car, not a truck engine). So you can do a STI swap into a RS, but you can't install a LS engine (as that is not a Subaru engine). Engine also has to be installed in the same position as the original engine, and retain the original drive wheels (FWD, RWD or AWD).

False. Any category of engine can be swapped. I've owned a BAR legal swapped jaguar with an LT1 and an RX7 with an LS1.

Correct on the smog equipment. It's a giant PITA, but I've put LS1 fuel pumps, evap, smog pumps, etc in and gotten my sticker. It did take a few trips to get everything to their satisfaction though.

This is also why I have my Ariel Atom - had to have one smog inspection, and never again will it have to be smogged.

Thanks for the clarification. Things must have changed since 2000. I don't even see that the powered wheels, or engine location needs to be stock on the ca bar website.
