Exclamation problems w/ tdo6 turbo

hey fellas the other night my turbo gave out.... I was on the freeway and down shifted from 5th to 4th, my speed was about 65mph when i heard a "backfire" type sound. looking in my rear view mirror i saw some smoke and immediately after i lost engine power and i could hear the turbo whining as i gave it gas. I've since checked all of the hoses/piping and haven't noticed a leak. Reading a book on turbos i think my turbo has busted as a result of the ignition or lack there of. I still can drive the car but have parked it untill i could take it to a shop. Any advice would be apprciated. The ignition is stock however, i have a sti conversion, alcoho injection (which was not operating at the time) cobb tuning accessport, helix up/down pipes and borla catbacks. thanks!l

So I take it you're getting no boost at all? But you can hear the turbo spooling?

hmmmmmm, I'll have to think about that one for a while.

your cat is blown. IF you have a bov then most definatly its your cat. MY car did the same thing and dealer took care of it. IF you can hear your turbo and if its drivable but not boosting, then your cat is blocking the turbo from pushing air. It may be clogged up with nastey stuff. Running rich is a problem why cats clog up so fast.

Take the down pipe off, and try to spin the turbine by hand.

If it spins, youre good to go...... wel possibly.

If it doesn't, its fubared.
