Semi-closed deck. Forged crank, forged rods, pistons...?

and noob question about open deck compared to close deck, i know close deck can take more boost, but wouldn't it have worse cooling because of the smaller coolant holes? so i guess i just wanna know what are the main differences between open and close deck, and the advantages of each. thx in advance for the feedback.

Ok, there is a whole bunch of mis-info here.

Lets start again. What year is your STi EJ20 and what kind of STi is it out of.

I won't go into the gritty details because its 2 AM right now, but closed/semi-closed deck blocks have more reinforcement between the cylinder walls vs. an open deck block. They handle more boost because they are just inherently stronger. They don't have worse cooling, often time its the other way around due to the fact that if a company goes through the trouble to design and manufacture a closed/semi-closed deck block they tend to intagrate things such as oil squirters for the pistons. Closed deck blocks tend to be a bit heavier then open deck blocks, but not much. There are a few other threads floating around with this topic and at least one of them includes pictures of the differences. Search 'em up. Hope that helps.
