Red face Could use some help before I buy this engine guys, please!!

I know alot of you guys are Impreza/WRX/STI guys, but I know alot of you are very knowledgable as well, so I could really use some help here...

I'm looking to replace the engine in my 2000 Subaru Legacy GT (EJ25). I don't want anything spectacular, I want my baby to run. Here's what I've heard:

Replace the EJ25 with another EJ25. Fair enough, except that because 2000 was the first year they went SOHC, it's hard to find em.

Go with an EJ25D(?), DOHC, which I think, was the late 90's engine in the Legacy's.

Go with an EJ20. Starting to look like a viable option since there are more out there, and a little bit cheaper than an EJ25.

Now, here's the question's I have. Will an EJ20 (non-turbo, just want my baby to run) fit directly into my car? Same goes for the EJ25 DOHC engine. The mechanic friend I have said I need to make sure the Intake Manifolds and injectors fit pertect, along with the belt housings? There's so many options from what I've heard but I *really* need to make sure that If I pop out $700-$1200 for an engine that all my mechanic needs to do is minimal work outside replacing the necessary parts. Thank you!

One last thing is, when I decide on an engine (hopefully from what you guys tell me), where do I buy it? I've heard stories about JDMexchange.com, but nobody has filled me in yet. The options I see so far are:

JDMexchange.com
Carpartsrequest.com
Tomsforeignautoparts.com(?)
Dynasty Auto (ebay store)

Am I missing any? Are there any other stores or websites i'm missing? I really appreciate the help, I need my baby running like nobodies businiess. Thank you for the help.

Thanks, I'll look into it. I can tell I already have questions for him, for instance, why would an EJ20T be less than half the price of an EJ25D? For that price I could get the turbo and just work on converting it...I'm so confused
