Auto to Manual conversion co$t?
What is the average total cost when converting an Automatic to a Manual transmission?
I've been in the market for a used Impreza or Legacy wagon, and it seems that 60% to 70% of them are automatic. If the cost is not prohibitive, I'd like to open up those possibilities in my search. Any input helps. Im in the SF Bay area so if LIC or GB Motorsport could chime in on this, that would be great.
thank you

*and yes, I'm sure others can find parts for dirt cheap and I'm sure other shops can do it cheaper but this is just my round about estimate from us.

Noah, I think you've got me confused with someone else, but thank you for chiming in so quickly. It sounds like I'm not the only one in the predicament! I'd been looking for about 2 months, and yes manuals are harder to come by than I expected. Lots of mom cars out there I guess.
Question: What are the advantages of the WRX drivetrain over the RS drivetrain? And are there particular Legacy models I should try to avoid in my search?
thank you

Ha ha, yeah I guess there's a few of you guys out there looking for cars.
advantage of WRX drivetrain, its a bit stronger than the RS...disadvatage is its 3.90:1 final drive gear ratio, where the RS is 4.11:1 (much better gearing).
try to stick to MY98 and newer if you can.

you are confused when stating that, you obviously know that the NA cars is a 4.11 and the turbo is a 3.90 with terrible gears.
just getting the facts straight. who the heck here does a usdm 5mt gearbox froma piggo only? you must have somewacky brained customers for that...

what about a FWD 5-speed setup? i dont want to go to turbo, and i love how light my car is.... is it possible to run an RA gearset in this, or the 4.44:1 ratio?
