2wd to AWD conversion?

i have a piddly 2wd 1.8L 1995 Impreza, and ive always been jealous of AWD subarus... not that i could actually do this if it WAS possible, but could the car be changed to AWD? and what would it take? I assume subaru didnt make a different transmission just for the 2wd base model, so its the same as the AWD ones right? (w/o the driveshaft, transfer case, etc...) I am just really curious about this, any thoughts?

Actually the Subaru, doesn't have a traditional Transfer case.....its actually integrated to be part of the transmission, so its very likely that the Tranny is different. But I dont see why you cant do an EJ20/sti tranny swap, and make it AWD. However, you'd have to make sure that the existing suspension is the same as the AWD subies, otherwise you may have to change the suspension too....not sure about the rear diff. but I suppose that would have to be swapped too.

Possible.....yes.....anything is possible with enough time and money.

easy, or cheap......no.
