tranny is finally dead

i used my income tax return for some more power parts for my wrx. i bought woodwards tgvs, a brand new aps inlet, grimmspeed pnp headers w/ hi-flow cross pipe, aem cold air and had a tune scheduled with ed for sat the 21st. spent both 19th and 20th installin parts with the help of jerry. friday night i finish up and take her out for a lil test drive just to make sure its ok, everything seems fine. saturday comes and iam excited to finally be getting tuned. ive been wanting to see how hard i could push the td04 at sac raceway. on my drive to fairfield on hwy 12 i hit a stop light. as i accellerate away and shift into 3rd i hear a very loud rattling. it still shifts into 3rd and drives but theres a horrible rattling noise with some vibration to it. when i get to EQ they take a look at it and there educated guess is i broke a chunk out of third. there is also a clicking in reverse now which they think is the chunk that made its way back there.... im screwed... dont really want to replace the tranny with a stock 5spd bcuz it will eventually just happen again. so ive been looking into a 07 sti 6mt swap... just went to two banks today and none are willing to give me a loan... iam royally screwed! i knew i should have saved my tax return for a tranny instead of more power parts and a tune

you look into ppg gears or RA gears? you should be able to find them on nasioc or something for fairly cheaper, its nothing like a 6sp but its pretty reliable

Welcome to the broken tranny club. My transmission has a slight knocking noise in lower rpm which I'm assuming it's messed up.

IMO, go with PPG. They're priced really well right now and you won't have to worry about your tranny again.

<-- Babies my 3rd. lol

Adrian, feel free to hit me up abt gearing. I've tried the Legacy GT gears before too.

I also know a killer tranny shop here in Turlock that will remove and install one in our cars within a few hours. "A & A Transmissions" on Golden State. No hassle/complaints, very friendly, best quote I've ever gotten, and great work.

"Al's Transmission" on Lander told me it'd be an extra 2 hours labor bc I have "aftermarket exhaust" and extra $20 plus hr labor to just get my car on the lift bc I'm lowered... so **** them.

There's a shop based out of Michigan called Millenium Auto. They sell STI swap parts that you need to do the complete swap. They're always on eBay and NASIOC.

RA gears are no different strength-wise from regular gears. However, TREATED RA gears are stronger than stock. How much power are you planning on pushing? The IAPerformance RA gears are rated to hold up to 350whp/wtq.

Yes, PPG gears are great, but may be overkill depending on how much power you're pushing.

The reason why most 3rd gears have gone bad too on the 06-07 wrx is because of the 3.70 Final Drive. The drop in between shifts kills with the load being put on them.
Sucks that Subaru is voiding most to all 3rd gear failures

i was thinking of a 20g or fp green in the future to hold me off till the car is paid off or atleast close to it. than i will build my monster... my 3rd gear failure is pretty weird. to me atleast. i can still shift into it and accellerate in it but the rattling and vibrating increases with rpm
