Irony.....and oil!

So two part post, first part is a question

I have been using Castrol gtx high mileage in my car since its second oil change in my hands, first was done at jiffy lube, nuff said, lol. Anyways, seeing the rebuild in the future and knowing that it is usually a good idea to run conventional to help everything seat right, im thinking of just sticking to conventional. I have noticed significantly more oil loss than i would normally expect, even with a shot cam seal, and i have a feeling its the Castrol, so I'm looking for recommendations for good oil to go with, what do you guys use?

As for the irony part, i drove all the way to work today behind a Corvair on a trailer from the swap meet, and about halfway there i noticed the Corvair engine on the trailer, with a conrod thru the block, maybe someone is trying to tell me something? I just found it sorta funny and ironic.

Have a friend at the dealership?
ask him to drain the oil on that car that just came off the trunk and put it in your car! there you go buddy and you got free factory oil.

you're wondering what oil to put in your new motor.

If its good enough to be put in a brand new motor with 0 miles then its good enough for the break in.

Do you have a friend at the dealership?

Ask him to drain the oil on a car that just came in off the shipping truck and put it in your car so you have oil from the factory.

If that makes no sense? then just use whatever you can find at any local auto store.

wow, i completely missed that in the post, it must be too dang late for me to be up. As for the motor its not brand new, unfortunately its a rebuild, but the Cometic head gaskets and Acl race bearings will make it run nice, now i just need to hope my internals aren't fubar.

wtf! are you talking about crafty? LOL why the hell would you just have someone at a dealer drain oil from a new vehicle to put into another car? WRONG.

dlgon, just use amsoil or motul or even stick with the castrol you are running. Call ED@EQ and ask him what he puts in motors when he rebuilds them. There are a lot of guys running synthetic in their freshly rebuilt motors and nothing wrong with them. Using conventional oil in a new motor is just one of those things a lot of people have opinions on. Read up and do your homework on it and you can decide yourself what you would like to do.

For a brand new block, use a conventional dino oil. After your 1K break-in, dump it and switch to a syth. of your choice. The castrol is fine. Just change your oil/filter every 3-3.5K and you'll be fine

It's a sign.

I ran castrol synthetic for 20k miles, then switched to castrol edge. Very satisfied with it and I have virtually no oil loss whatsoever.

I hear many people use Mobil1 with great results to.
You can't go wrong with Amsoil either. If money is an issue, I hear you can use Rotella pretty successfully to. I just get a 5 quart jug of castrol for $25.

Ya lots of proof that i've seen, synthetic is not a good thing to use on a break in period. I have seen the aftermath of it, there is at least one subie around Turlock that reeks of oil after the motor was rebuilt, they live like three blocks away from me, hehe.

Anyone have regular oil they recommend, i know most peeps, espically you wrx and sti guys, are running synthetic, but my motor will not see synthetic for at least 9k after rebuild, i don't feel like burning oil all the time, hehe.

and for those of you who don't actually get the irony, Corvair is rear engined h-6, the motor had a con rod thru the block, and i need this rebuild because i have a rod bearing otw out.
