I too have gotten pulled over for the same reason. When the CHP officer walked over to my window I already had my credentials ready as well as that little piece of paper that comes with the exhaust that states that it meets all standards in California. If you don't have a copy of that paper then just go to a local dealership and have one printed out. This can also help out with the ticket problem.

Also, after showing this paper to that CHP officer he just told me "be sure to shift under 3k or you're going to keep having this problem".
