'11 wrx or '08 Sti
After a couple of years removed from the Subie scene I'm once again consedering buying another. My chief complaint with my 07 Wrx was room, there was none was my stuff. So I will be buying a hatch but the question is WRX or Sti. I know the differences in Tranny, suspension and stopping power but only wanting to spend 26-27k leaves me with a choice. I was NOT satisfied with the performance of my 07 WRX even with a turbo back and tune so is the 11-12 WRXs that much better or is an STi "that car". Finally I will be only be adding a TBE and tune to the car so heavy modification will not be an option, thanks for the info I-clubbers
Yup. Besides the 08 had a lot of issues. Soft suspension, smaller turbo than 09+
Can't recall what else. I went from a bugeye to a 2010 wrx hatch. You will be pleased with the space.
I'd say newer wrx.

Very good info. One thought comes to mind when I look back, two weeks after buying my WRX I felt I made a mistake in not buying the STi. The '11+ WRX seems like a much improved car, in 2007 the STi was so much more than the WRX but it seems Subaru has closed the gap considerably between the two. I will test drive the 2 to get a good feel

Price...
If you buy new, you're looking at about a 10-12 grand difference. I've driven both, and the STI definitely feels better, but for an easy 4-5 grand you can do intake, TBE, headers/up-pipe and tune, and outdo the STI easily. If you look for used WRX/STI's you're still going to have about a 7-9 grand difference in price, comparing same mileage, options, etc.
My opinion, buy the WRX and throw 10 grand into making it your own. I'm currently saving for just that, look on autotrader.com daily with about a 500mile search radius, and there are great buys that pop up every now and again.
Good luck and have fun!

Dude the new models are so much better than the older ones, a lot more plush and a bit more roomier. As soon as you drive it you will notice that it is a bigger car now. My vote is for 11+ since it has a better front end. Oh and PS, I got my 11 STi used with 7k miles for 31K.
Yes I am posting from the Middle East, I still troll every once and a while.

I would go with the newer 2011 wrx over the 08 sti, the 6speed and brembo's are great, but if it's just a DD and a fun weekend car why go for the sti?
