Another eBay SCAM!!!
Another eBay scam BEWARE!!!!
Moderators, maybe you could make this sticky?
Hey folks. I don't know if you guys spend a lot of time looking at cars on eBay, but I do. Yeah I'm a loser, but I got nothing better to do. Anyway, lately there has been a rash, and I mean the worst festering rash you've ever seen, of fraudulent auctions. Cars range from Suby's, EVO's, Bimmers, Mustangs and probably others.
This is similar to another scam marked "sticky" in this forum. The alleged seller is putting up late model cars and selling them for ridiculously low prices. The auctions are limited to restricted buyers only. In other words you have to email the guy and he "feels you out" to see if you'll bite on this scam. The cars have bogus VIN's (some haven't even been titled yet). The contact information on the auctions is vague and limited. The seller will claim the car is out of the country and once a deposit is made into an escrow account, he will deliver the car to your door. Well the money goes into the escrow account (Western Union) and is deposited into an account and your fictitious car never shows up. This guy is so Ballzzy that he even listed an M3 from some other dealers eBay auction at the same time.
Personal inspections can't be done either. He'll claim the car is out of the country ie Italy or something, or being serviced. He's not getting caught because he's hijacking peoples eBay accounts and usernames and changing their email/personal info. He then uses an otherwise clean account to mount his scam assault. Just tonight I came across 6, count them, 6 bogus auctions.
My reason for posting this is two fold. Make sure you protect your eBay account if you have one. I caution anyone logging in to eBay on a computer or workstation away from their home. Also change your password at least every 6 months. Second, if you see any of these bogus auctions report them to the eBay security center. eBay is aware of this mounting problem and if you notify them of what appears to be a fraudulent auction they usually respond quickly by shutting it down. Here is the link to the eBay security center. Cheers, and thanks for your attention.

it's not just eGay....
i found an STi on Autotrader that was the same way....
zip was a MD zip but phone was a 714 (SoCal) areacode...
i called & it was just a big corp switchboard...
so i emailed & the guy replied back sayong he was quote:"dumb" meaning deaf & mute... so hios reasoning was to corespond by email...
he said the STi was at his wife's work, which happened to be the Spanish Embassy building in DC...
he went on to say his wife worked there & she was recalled to Spain because of terrorists threats...but she'd make arrangements to come back & help him get the car delivered...
which by chance he was gratios enough to say that he'd cover any shipping costs...
hahahaha...yeah riiiight!
i had a titlehistory ran & the car came back as recently being bought at a wolesale auction in CT and was purchased by a dealership there and as of yet, had not been purchased and was most likely sitting on a Subaru dealers lot in CT someplace minding it's own business...
scammers can eat it!

I appreciate your help here, but why not report these things to the authorities when you find them? People do what they can get away with, if nothing goes up but a simple warning in forums it will continue to happen.

And Second; I am not the police nor do I want to be. I am simply warning people to be a aware of these potential traps, and to safe gaurd themselves against fraud. I am an Imprezza owner and a member of this forum. All the people in this forum have some kind of a connection, Imprezza's and Subarus. Therefore, I have a common interest with every person on this forum, . Ergo, this is the only open type forum where I feel it is appropriate to post something like this. Especially, to someone who might be considering buying one of these bogus cars.

Well for One; I have already notified my local police department. They replied "We don't have the man power to investigate, internet fraud." eBay & Western Union have also been notified, are aware of the problem, and they have a much more direct connection with the FBI's fraud division than I do.

i sent all my info to the proper authorities when i found out i potentially could have been out a lot of money...
if i would have read a post like this before hand, i may have been able to submit it to them sooner & maybe catch the crooks.
