I agree with scr Wrx. I have a moderatley modified 02 WRX and I recently raced a 2003 Corvette from a stop through third gear. I pulled really hard on him in first gear, I mean at least 2 car lengths he pulled up on me a little bit in second and I regained my ground in third. I was very impressed considering the performance figures relating the two cars. I wouldn't be suprised if a stock WRX held it's own on the track with a Corvette.

Mods:
Cobb Accessport
Apexi N1 Cat back
HKS Downpipe
Helix Up pipe
Greddy BOV
Kartboy short throw shifter
The Corvette was an automatic and I got a great launch so considering those two factors it obviously hepled.

No way a stock WRX would keep up with a Vette. Since you raced only through 3rd I'm guessing it was a street race. Anything can happen during a street race. Vettes can't hook up worth anything on street tires, let alone on an unprepped street vs. a prepped surface of a track.

I beg to differ.....I raced my neighbors mid-90's vette from a dig.....I wasnt paying attention, he launched on me and immediately gained about 3-4 car lengths.....I took off, reeled him in and ran past him, then shut down about 2 bus lengths ahead of him......and power wise, my car is very, very mildly modded.
ECUTek
HKS BOV
Light crank pulley
uppipe and Turbo back....thats it.
After I get my Turbo and all the supporting mods installed and tuned, I will be going after his Z06.

edit: and if you are on a racetrack.....driver skill is just as important as the car you are driving. The very next week he took his car (The Z06) to T-hill, and said that some dude had a Mazda Miata and was SPANKING EVERYONE ELSE that was on the track......including him in his Vette.

STis and S2k's I could totally understand...but ITR's and Minis....I still think a bone stock WRX could easily take those (on a road course), but at an AutoX you're probably right.....and yea, his "old" vette is a C4....but his Z06 is a C5....but then again, he's not exactly Petter Solberg, or John Force either if you know what I mean.

Yeah I have raced on a track but not with a Corvette. I've seen some certain editors write from various magazines over the years stating that WRX's would keep up with Corvettes and many other high dollar high performance cars that cost 2-3 times more than a WRX, isn't that part of the reason why we own these cars? You get $40,000 worth of performance in a fair priced Subaru that even looks unique and cool. All I know I dusted that Vette and was very suprised trust me! I just wanted to share because a 2.0 Turbo kicked a $40,000+ Vette, I was proud of my Suby.
My roomate has a 98 vette with a chip as its only mod. I beat him to 95 in my 03 wrx, which I would consider modified (vf22, pinks, pump, plugs, ecutek, 18 psi, esx tmic, injen cai, :-( with a sick clutch). This was a street race btw and he really doesn't know how to launch.
