WRX VS used C5 Corvettes
Totally different animals, but the same prices and gas mileages.
Pretty sure I will go with a suby, but am also wondering if the C5 might be a better buy. Will be buying used. Your thoughts please.
227 claimed hp 4 cycl vs 340 claimed hp V-8.
16-22K, save only 2-8k used for Suby, 18-24k, save 16-22k for used pre 2000 C5's.
C5 wins the styling, horsepower and babe factor. Suby wins the steath and crap weather factor. Unsure which handles better.
Anybody ever grapple with this before?
I'm assuming that due to the younger drivers, the WRX has been put in the sports car cagetory with insurance companies? Would the C5 be that much more to insure at all since it's mostly old farts that drive these?
Have not researched the C5 much, but the Suby's transmission and crappy warranty reputation has me a bit concerned. I'm sure there are problems with the C5 though.

I almost think these cars are too different to really compare.
I actually learned to drive in a Corvette. But, in all honesty, I don't think I was a good enough driver to really feel the difference (and it was quite a while ago) so I don't know if I can really help you out there. I was an amazing car, though.
Since I am such an AWD advocate, I would like to say the WRX is the better choice, but in all truth, you should take the time to really test drive the two. I'm sure the one you want will make itself known to you.

Why not a STI vs C5? Because they don't make a STI Wagon. If I were to buy a Suby, I'd get the wagon and drive it til the wheels fell off.
I also live in San Francisco - Never drive in the snow. I'm pretty sure I will stick with getting the Suby though, it's what my signifcant other is voting for. She's telling me that once we both finish graduate school, she'll get us a high end sportscar for us to share, use for track days and weekends. She also promised me not to paint it pink.

i struggled with this as well, but i was looking at the Honda S2K. That car was a load of fun and as fast if not faster than the WXR wagon. Still, I went with what was more practical. Having a small, fun car is cool but it might wear off sooner than you think.

About $2,100 a year for liablity only for the Rover. Miata was around 1,600 for liablity only.
Guess you can do a lot more damage with a 2+ ton SUV than a little flea-weight like the Miata.
Are Subie Wagons desirable to theives? I don't see many "Stolen" posts here. If not, I plan to just get liablity and uninsured motorists coverage.

I don't think that insurance companies care about the cost of the Rover when they figure out liablity costs - just the odds of me hitting and causing damage to somebody else as that's what liablity insurance pays for. Doesn't replace or fix my Rover if I f--k up.
Interestingly enough, my Miata cost more than my Rover did (both brought used).

hmmm...
go with the subaru(the all wheel drive extraordinaire). if you are interested in the babe factor then go with the vette (don't u have a "sig" other?) i bought an 03 wagon and love the 2 p's. POWER and PRACTICALITY. you won't believe the comments u get on a wagon. grant it chicks don't check me out. but i have 2 @ home- my fiance and my daughter.
i am also fortunate enough to have an sti also. i don't think i'll ever go back to american muscle until the gt-40 comes out (if i can afford it )
plus modding a subaru is not as ridiculous versus modding a vette. (and tires are def. cheaper!)
