Question Will Saab force Subaru to lower prices?

Now that Saab has bought Subaru's designs for the WRX and it's boxer engine, and sold the car for less $ than a new WRX, do you think Subaru will lower their prices to try and compete? If you ask me, Saab was always an expensive car company and to sell their wrx ripoff at a lower price than the real deal means Subaru will lose a lot of business and be forced to lower prices.

Also, will Saab owners driving a 2.0 boxer engine mean more performance parts for this engine in the future?

Any thoughts?

Saab's 9-2X isn't cheaper then the Imprezas.

From their respective websites:
Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Wagon starts at $17,995 ($22,440 tricked out with all accessories except roof rack and SPT stickers)
Saab 9-2X Linear starts at $22,990 ($29,230 fully tricked)

Subaru Impreza WRX wagon starts at $24,295 ($32,641 fully tricked out except roof rack accessories and SPT stickers)
Saab 9-2X Aero starts at $26,950 ($33,140 fully tricked)

Also note that Subaru offers more options on their website for both of these cars then Saab does. I don't think you can get an SPT catback directly from Saab (although it probably would fit if you got one).

Further, Saab didn't buy plans from Subaru, they are getting FHI to build the cars for them.

saab's recent tv promotion sets the price for the 92-x at just under 23000, that's cheaper than the base wrx. and the TS doesn't have the same engine as the saab so it's not comparable.

Go to Saab's website. http://www.saabusa.com or http://9-2x.saabusa.com/ and do some research.

The 9-2X Linear (which starts at $22,990) has a naturally aspirated 2.5L boxer motor which puts out 165hp and 166 lb/ft of torque (does that sound familiar?).

The 9-2X Aero (which starts at $26,950) has a turbo charged 2.0L boxer motor which puts out 227hp and 217lb/ft of torque.

The Saab comercial says the Saab 9-2X starts under $23,000, but it doesn't say which version. The cheap 9-2X is based on the RS Wagon (also note that Subaru is not selling a TS anymore), not the WRX Wagon. The Aero model is what is based on the WRX Wagon and it starts at $26,950.

being that i sell subarus i was bothered by the same promotion of saab.
one comment- the saab ad is misleading- the price they quote is at a base price-
by the time you add everything in the price totals more than a wrx and rivals that of an STi- when you think about it- how many people buy a saab just to have it at a "entry level" ? one possible problem i might see in the future is that - saab's parent company is gm... gm has awesome rebates for their american car divisions. i wonder if they will extend the same benefits to their saab dealerships.?
