There are existing threads on the "STi vs Evo" topic if you use the forum Search feature.

Do you plan to track (road course, not drags) your new car purchase? You might like the out-of-the box handling of the Evo but some owners who have driven both state that the STi is more civilized as a daily driver.

The basic question is: Why are you considering the purchase of the STi and the Evo in the first place? Your answer may help members to help decide which new car is best for your needs.

And from what I hear the GTO is no longer in production, right? So, supporting mods will be minimal

Go STI and be happy. Some say the look of the EVO is better, but I like the fact that the WRX stands out in a crowd of cars (with the hood scoop) and aggressive stance!

I was looking GTO when I bought the STi, the reason is because (rare as it is) we get some snow occasionally around here and I would have to park a GTO for the winter months because, I lack the self control to keep my foot out of the throttle rain or no rain and didnt want to end up in a gaurd rail. I Like the lowend tq of the STi, the quality of interior, and the fact that sub only builds AWDs, so its not a conversion like the EVO. jmho

STI is a rear sight, I went the the STI because it is a Subaru. If you want an all wheel drive car that performs great just get the STI. How many all wheel drive cars did mitsu make?? The look of the evo may be more appleaning to some but performance is about = STI. I thinnk that subarus are more rugged.

I like the iron block of the evo , minus the crappy drivetrain . I geuss a stock sti would be a great daily driven vehicle over an evo .

I dont own either three cars. but my friend bought a GTO last year and now he's regretting that he got the car (lots of reason). my cousin had an EVO 8 and sure he likes it a lot... but the fact that its a Mitsubishi... (IMO the Crappiest car manufacturer in terms of reliability). I would choose STi over the 3 coz its Subaru...

my personal choice... is just a regular WRX wagon... cheaper insurance and more practical...

Why not sac up and be an individual? There is plenty of information out there on both cars to make your own judgement.

Oh yea, btw. Buy an Evo.

i would buy a sti over a evo any day. I have one so do my friends. I have friends with evo's. Evo is a nice car but can't take a lot of abuse. I hit a curb at over 50mph and only bent my lower a arm. My buddy hit a dog and about rip the hole front end off.

After two years of modding my Evo I finally blew it up (somthing about 28psi @ 7500prm, and the car just went POP). I just purchaced a 2006 WRX. It is a dream to drive, easy to shift, comfortable. it doesn't quite have the razor sharp handling of the evo. But for that minimal loss of handling you gain back in durability and comfort. I've already done things in this car that would have killed my previous steed. I've never driven an STI, but if it's like this car with a lot more power, I would choose the STI. Depending how the 2007 STI special edition comes out, I might trade up for that.

That's true , the sti is one hell of a durable vehicle . I hit a huge rain drainage ditch heading home , all I heard was a big boom , stopped on the side of the road to check car , no damage not even a scratch . Also , I took it in to check the underside of the car , no damage to control-arms or suspension . Very durable vehicle ..........

Way to support your opinion with facts...or logic...or anything, for that matter.

I chose an STi for these reasons:

-More civil DD, in an Evo you sneeze and change lanes. Chicas no gusta.
-More appeasing interior.
-Bit more power STOCK, I know the 4G63 is easier to make power with bolt ons, but stock for stock, the EJ257 has more oomph.
-Subaru reliability: They only manufacture AWD vehicles, they know what in the hell to do. Try driving an Evo in the snow, then drive an STi. My STi with Blizzaks takes CO storms better than my father's half ton Duramax truck with studs.
-6 gears instead of 5.
-A tranny that is damn near bullet proof.
-Adjustable center diff.
