I also ran over a curb on Monday, so far all that's damaged is fron driver's side wheel. Taking it in on Sat. to get it looked at closer, hopefully all is well. I was going bout 25-30mph when I made contact with the curb. What did it cost you to replace the lower arm?

I always thought Mistubishi built 4WD cars and Subaru builtr AWD cars...some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there is a difference. Isn't the evolution only 2wd until slippage occurs?

The evo is awd all the time. Only there is no variation in torque distribution front to rear.

Yeah, I was hoping someone would mention that. Subaru certainly doesn't "own" the AWD category by any means; everyone in Japan makes at least one full-time 4WD/AWD vehicle, and Subraru's design is cribbed from Audi in some respects.

How about the price, Priced an EVO lately? You get way more for your money with the Suby.

how about the fact that the suby platform is much better... The STi is a WRX at heart (which is still a decent car IMHO) thi, while the EVO is and always will be a Lancer. Just like the SRT-4 is and always will be a neon.

It really was not even a toss up for me, I wanted the STi ever since I saw one for the first time. I got a WRX and kicked myself every day after thinking "I should of got the STi"

I got my 05 WRX and 06 STi for several reasons. First they drive like crazy and keep asking for more. They look great, every WRX I see catches my eye (even the wagons, and I can't STAND wagons LOL). On top of that they are 4 door and I can easly put the car seats in for the kids The AWD is cool but I find the new 06 is a bit twitchy compared to the 05, might just be the difference in Rex to STi but it is there.

I went Subie over Mitsu for one reason, Quality. Both cars look cool and drive great but I want a trustworthy car.

As far as the GTO.... I would never consider buying a car like that. It's a glorified Cavalier that sux gas like a hog and is not impressive at all for a 400 hp car. Simply put, it was a waste of production and development time.

Question

Isn't Mitsubishi pulling out of the US market in 2007 and parts only available through 2009 or 2010? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Totally false. I know and have talked to just as many cool Evo owners as STi owners. In fact, more Evo owners have been willing to meet up for activities than STi owners. We both enjoy our cars, and that's what it's all about. When I meet up with Evo owners there is no rivalry. Everyone respects everyone else's ride. They bought Evos for their reasons, and we bought STis for ours. It's pretty much in agreement among all that if one didn't exist we would've purchased the other.

There are fanboys in both camps, and they equally suck.

Hey genius, the GTO gets better gas mileage than the STi. Glorified Cavalier? How about if you enlighten us with factual information that the GTO and Cavalier share any parts.....

Oh yeah, the GTO is faster in the 1/4 than the STi, and it also traps higher. Oh wait, there's that gas thing I already mentioned too.

Dude, this subject has been beaten to death. Yeah, that's a good deal on a BRAND NEW STI.

Instead of asking why we bought one over the other, how'bout if you drive both of them and then make your decision? Your decisions for buying one over the other may differ from ours.

My reasonings behind buying the STi were because I've liked the STi since 1994 when it debuted, I think it looks better, it has a 6spd (more gears to row, the better), and Subaru has a better reputation for quality than Mitsubishi.

I drove an Evo even though I had already pretty much made up my mind on an STi. I just wanted to check out the competition.

Yeah, the seats are pretty comfy. It's a shame that the GTO is so heavy, because if it wasn't and I lived in a climate without snow, I may well be driving a GTO instead of an STi. While on the subject of weight, I was looking forward to getting a new Camaro in 2010, but I hear that it's going to weigh nearly 4000 lbs. It looks like I'll be a member of the STi camp once again. And that's not a bad thing.....

I'm an American Muscle fan through and through. In fact, the only two import cars that I would even care to own are an STi and/or an Evo. Even though both of them have 4 cylinders, they have a very muscular feeling to them; about as close as you can get to the feeling of an American Muscle car in an import, IMO.

The most interesting thing about the STi is that A LOT of American Muscle fans love it (and the Evo). I get a lot of "thumbs up" from drivers of American Muscle. I personally don't know any American Muscle fan that dislikes the STi and the Evo.

You mention leather seating. Well, there is an "STI Limited" on its way which includes a sunroof and leather seating, along with some other creature comforts, I believe. I have heard that it only makes 290 hp compared to the 300 hp in the "standard" STi/STI, but who knows? The STI Limited will not have all of the "boy racer" tidbits on it, and it will also have a different set of Enkei wheels.
