Other than the Sti being quicker due primarily to its 600 lb was advantage, what other reason would there be not to own the S60R. I'm contemplating the switch.

I like it because it has more room and its geared toward the older crowd like me, I love my Sti but I think its time for a grown up car not to offend anyone its just me. I'm still not sure about it, the S60R, but there's nothing else in the price range that I like that has the performance ie turbo intercooler & AWD, I'm I wrong. I think it has some potential for an older guy like me.
I find Audi's to be a lot sportier than the Volvo's. Even tarted up like the S60R it still exudes old man car(unless you are an old man) and most Volvo drivers are total *** clowns. Pay a little more an get a Audi S4. Girls like Audi's too.

Really, I only know one person with the high performance Volvo" V70 " wagon and he is really cool. In my neighborhood there are several Volvos, I only can think of one of the owners being an "*** clown". Most of the owners I think are women. Obviously none of the neighborhood owners have S60R. What would you call and old man 50 plus I'm in my forties. I never thought about the Audi because of the price and I can get a smokin deal on the S60R High twenties. What do you guys think. I think you made a good point about the women but I don't need another one, the one I have would get upset.
Guys I can chime in here because my co-worker owned a really nice red S60R.
The S60R is really really good looking and has some ballz. However, the inside is soooooooooooooooo bland. I mean really bland like go to sleep bland. Also, it has a hard time playing with the big boys (S4 and M3). It's a good car though but I consider it second tier to those two.
HOWEVER, for the price that you mentioned I would hit it hardcore. That's a freaking smokin' deal!

At the time he had the S60R and a Jaguar X-Type.
Now he has a Lincoln LS V8 and that Jaguar still. I am fully baffled by his car choices.
He keeps both cars at work which is the baffling part. One he leaves in his work stall and the other he drives daily but has to park on the street in a metered stall.
I'm like WTF...just sell one or both...obviously neither is a collector's car so why keep both...especially since they're the same kind of car.
If I were him, I'd sell both and buy a BMW 530i for daily and a Porsche Boxster for the weekends...he has money from his family or something like that.
Anyways, out of all his cars I liked the S60R the most because of the color and nice clean understated looks...it was like a ferrari red hue and it was sweet!
I still say get the S60R because of the smokin' deal and the fact that mods such as those mentioned above are cheap and easy.
S60r
I used to sell Volvo. The S60R's are nice cars, but as mentioned, will never keep up performance wise with the likes of the S4 or M3 (although it costs less) or the STi (even though it costs a boatload more). It does have adjustable suspension settings, which is nice if you don't want to be bounced around all the time...
The Haldex AWD is nice, and is very capable all weather (also found on Audi TT...) but is not a pure performance AWD like the DCCD on the STi. It's also equipped with DSTC, which is a yaw control computer to help the car corner "better". Many performance drivers disable such devices because they have the capability to override driver inputs, but from a day to day, and a safety standpoint, it's a nice system.
However, check out www.swedespeed.com before you buy. Many S60R owners who drive those cars even reasonably hard have had excessive warranty claims and are quite dissatisfied with them. Unlike Subaru, I've never had a problem with VCNA refusing a warranty claim, but that's little consolation when you're driving a ford contour rental car while your car's in the shop AGAIN. I haven't personally seen any cars with major maintence issues, but I have heard of it.
